The denial of an area has often been achieved through the use of land mines or the use of troops. Mines do not discriminate and often kill or maim innocent people while using troops to deny an area is manpower intensive and costly.

Metal Storm changes this radically.

Linking Metal Storm weapon pods with sensors and a fire control unit allows control of an area by surveillance and remote operation including a ‘man in the loop'.  This capability provides a discriminate area denial system and a much safer alternative to a minefield. Metal Storm delivers grenades instead of ‘leave behind' mines when an enemy enters a protected area.  Grenades are only delivered when needed and are not left behind to injure innocent people. All grenades can be fused to explode at a certain time and no unexploded shells are left behind.
